Budget Resources
- The University of Maryland Extension offers free financial literacy workshops for Calvert County residents. Topics range from “Getting through the Month” to “Behind on Bills? Start with one step.”
- A full list of offerings for adults. For teen and youth budget resources.
Employment Resources
- American Job Centers provide training opportunities, job search/placement information and one-on-one support for resume writing and mock interviewing. Visit the Southern Maryland JobSource website to learn more about services in Calvert County.
- Apply for Unemployment Insurance (UI) program. UI pays benefits to workers who have lost their job through no fault of their own and meet eligibility criterial. If you are unemployed, you may file a claim via the Internet or by telephone by using one of the telephone numbers listed on the Unemployment Insurance home page under “Claim Center Telephone Numbers”. You can call 667-207-6520 to speak to a live agent and file a new regular, or CARES Act unemployment insurance claim.
Food Assistance
- Food pantries can be a helpful resource to help you meet your food needs. Visit OurCalvert.com’s Food Pantry Resource Page to learn more about food assistance resources near you.
- Visit Calvert County’s Department of Social Services to apply for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for food assistance. Oftentimes, enrolling in SNAP can qualify you and your family for other assistance as well. Visit the DSS website for more information and learn how to apply.
For Expectant Mothers and Parents of Young Children
- The following agencies provide aid to expectant mothers and parents of young children. They assist with a variety of care items, such as diapers.
- Care Net - All services are free and confidential (no insurance required); simply call or stop by any CareNet center
- Birthright Prince Frederick - All services are free and confidential (no insurance required); simply call or stop by any Birthright center
- Maryland Diaper Bank - The Maryland Diaper Bank's mission is to provide basic diaper needs to stimulate health, growth and good hygiene for babies in Maryland.
Youth and Young Adult Resources
- The University of Maryland Extension offers free financial literacy workshops for youth and young adults ages 13-19. Topics include money management, borrowing, earning power and financial services lessons. Click here for more information.
- Southern Maryland JobSource’s Youth and Young Adult program provides job seekers and workers (aged 16-24) with career services, education, training and supportive services. For more information, visit their website or call/text 240-346-2006.
- Southern Maryland Community Network provides one-on-one assistance to participants ages 16-24 in Calvert County working towards their educational and employment goals. The program helps participants prepare for work, maintain their position, obtain a GED and return to college. Other areas of focus include life skills training, job search assistance and resume writing. The program is free and participants receive incentives as they move through the program! Rental and Mortgage Assistance (Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention)
- If you are behind on your rent or mortgage payments due to COVID-19, you may qualify for assistance. A Rental and Mortgage Relief Fund is available to help households in Calvert County that have experienced financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners approved $300,000 in funding to provide low-barrier aid to help tenants and homeowners avoid eviction and foreclosure.
- Households must apply for aid to receive assistance and aid will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Households in need of assistance may contact the following local housing agencies to learn more and apply:

- Households must apply for aid to receive assistance and aid will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Households in need of assistance may contact the following local housing agencies to learn more and apply:
Citizens who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and are in need of mortgage, rent or utility assistance are also encouraged to contact the Calvert County’s Department of Social Services at 443-550-6900 for a referral to local partner agencies that may be of assistance.

Landlord Resources
- Please click here to view landlord resources for Calvert County and Maryland landlords.
- If one or more of your tenants are behind on rent due to COVID-19, contact the Department of Community Resources at 410-535-1600 x 8803 for information on to aid your tenants and bring them up-to-date on their rent payments. The Department of Community Resources can work with eligible tenants and landlords to prevent evictions through community-based programs and partners.
Utility Assistance
- If you experienced a loss of income due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and are in jeopardy of your water/sewer service being terminated, assistance may be available through Southern Maryland Tri-County Community Action Committee, Inc. Contact the office at 301-274-4474 x 200 for an application. Click here to learn more about the program and the application requirements.
- To process your application for assistance, you will need to submit the following items:
- A copy of your delinquent/disconnect notice
- Copy of your photo ID
- Proof of Residency (mortgage statement, lease, etc.)
- Copies of Social Security Cards for all household members
- Proof that the delinquency is due to COVID-19 related income loss
- Make sure the following is correct, so your application can be processed quickly:
- The applicant's name is on the water/sewer bill
- All household members are included
- All household members for the last 30 days are included
- To process your application for assistance, you will need to submit the following items:
- Contact the Calvert County Department of Social Services at 443-550-6900 for a referral to local partner agencies that may be of assistance. The Department of Social Services can help you apply for Emergency Assistance which provides emergency cash assistance to families who need emergency help paying rent or utilities or for other emergencies. These funds are available through the local department once every two years when funds are available.
- Additional utility assistance may be available at local agencies listed on this flyer. Depending on the program, a DSS referral may be required. It is recommended to contact each agency to determine their application requirements.
Emergency Financial Assistance
- Contact the Calvert County Department of Social Services at 443-550-6900 to apply for Emergency Assistance which provides emergency cash assistance to families who need emergency help paying rent or utilities or for other emergencies. These funds are available through the local department once every two years when funds are available.
- For additional emergency financial assistance, contact a local community agency (listed here) to determine if you're eligible for financial aid. Applications may require a referral form the Calvert County Department of Social Services. If you have questions, you may contact the Department of Community Resources at 410-535-1600 x 8803 to discuss what programs might be best for you, and learn how to apply.
