Voluntary Benefits

Calvert County Government provides Voluntary benefits through third party insurance companies or other benefit providers as an accommodation to its employees. Calvert County does not require that employees purchase these benefits nor does it contribute to the cost of the benefits. These benefits are typically portable, meaning employees can keep coverage after they leave the County's employ.

Colonial Life

Colonial Life provides peace of mind and protects your lifestyle when life throws unexpected challenges your way. Colonial Life voluntary benefits help protect your income and provide financial security for you and your family. Benefits available include the following:

  3. Term Life Insurance
  4. Accident Insurance
  5. Critical Illness Insurance
  6. Group Hospital Indemnity Insurance
  7.  Cancer Insurance
  8. Gun Shot Wound Policy

 Legal Shield / ID Shield

Members have access to prepaid legal firms that provide coverage in areas including real estate, consumer finance, family law, traffic issues and more. The Identity Theft plan includes personal credit score with analysis, continuous monitoring with activity alerts, identity restoration services and more.

Maryland 529 College Savings plans 

 There are two different plans available to employees to assist them in saving for college expenses via payroll direct deposit.

  1.  Maryland Prepaid College Trust allows participants to lock in tomorrow's tuition at today's prices. There are flexible payment options and plans to fit your educational needs.
  2.  Maryland College Investment Plan allows participants to choose from a variety of investment portfolios, managed by T. Rowe Price, which can be used at any eligible college, university, trade school or technical school.
