(1) copy of the Floor plan of the space you are occupying.
Please include all room dimensions, label all rooms and areas by their uses including bathrooms, offices, sales area, etc.
Please include door swings and indicate the locations of emergency lighting /exit signs.
(1) copy of the Site plan of the property, indicating which space you will be taking and showing surrounding area to include parking.
(1) copy of the Business Description Letter.
Please include a summary of business operations, hours of operation, brief description of any processes, and number of employees. If a storage area will be utilized, please indicate what is being stored.
Please note: If the property is located on private well and/or septic, Environmental Health will complete a sanitary review. They collect their $50 review fee prior to any reviews beginning. Inspections and Permits does not take this fee. Please contact Environmental Health at 410-535-3922 after a permit number has been issued to you.
Please note: If the proposed business is a food facility, a Food Facility plan may need to be submitted for review directly to Environmental Health, prior to Use permit approval. Please contact Kristen Wallo at 410-535-3922 for instructions to submit to their office.
A $50 application fee is due at Use permit submittal. A $60 permit fee is due prior to permit issuance. Fees are payable by check or cash in office. Credit card payments may be made on our online portal.

Normal business hours are 8AM – 4PM, Monday – Friday. Please note: Our office is closed until 10:00 AM the first and third Thursday of each month for staff development.
Alternatively, you may apply online at encompass.calvertcountymd.gov. Please note:We do not accept permit applications via email.
Our office will enter the application into our tracking system in the order your application was received. We will then forward the information for the necessary reviewers. Minimum review time is 2-3 weeks.
Once the permit application has been approved, a $45.00 permit fee is required, and the approval documents will be issued.Inspections must be scheduled and approved prior to occupying the space.
Typical Use Permit inspections include (but are not limited to):
Fire Marshal: call 410-414-3600. You must provide our office with the inspection approval documents that the Fire Marshal will provide you upon approval.
Food Facility (if required): call 410-535-3922.
Upon approval of previous required inspections, you may schedule your final building inspection with our office by calling 410-535-2155.
Upon final building inspection approval, the Use permit approval documents will be provided to you, at which point the business can open.
